Waterwheel Restaurant located at The Inn at Gristmill Square5 Stars Plus -124 Old Mill Road Warm Springs VA. Phone (540) 839-2231

I was doing a documentary film on Warm Springs and Hot Springs VA. I have eaten in every single restaurant in these two towns and some of those reviews are listed here. This is in my opinion the best as it gets. I was welcomed in this restaurant tonight even without a reservation on a Friday night. The restaurant is extremely clean, the hostess was top notch, as was my waitress Becky. The restaurant is in the Old Gristmill and I have taken many pictures of this building over the years, you can see some on my website,  I have eating here before under another owner, but that is old news, really old news. If you know who I mean you know what I mean!
Tonight my experience was 5 Stars plus 5 Stars. I had a Belgian Draft Beer and a soft drink, there is an extensive wine cellar that you can walk down to off the main dining area, I saw a lot of people doing just that, and taken pictures and video. I seen the guest of this restaurant really enjoying their experience. The atmosphere was relaxing, and romantic for some, each table was adorned with clean linens, exquisite dinner ware, and a upscale Taper Candle. The restaurant has a small tavern like bar room off from the dining area.

I ordered the Rib Eye Steak – Medium Well. Since I was alone I was offered a magazine to read while I waited for my salad, but I was enjoying the Draft Beer too much. I got a house salad that was uniquely presented and wrapped in a thin slice of cucumber accompanied by a hot roll. Since tonight Connie was out with the girls, (my daughters) I was alone, and she is going to be on my case for missing this meal!
The steak was a Nice Size especially for me! served with a great bed of Mash Potatoes and thin Seasoned Green Beans. There was no need for any steak sauces this steak was perfectly cut, aged and cooked, it melted in my mouth. I also had an after dinner coffee that was also top notch for those who have seen my videos you know Coffee and Beer is my thing! I played a little trick I asked for the chocolate cake that comes with ice cream and a fudge drizzle, but I asked them to warm a shot of spiced rum so I can pour on it and Becky said sure! and a nice size shot, nice size!! came in a Brandy Snifter Glass, nice and warm covered with a tea napkin to keep it warm and fuzzy! My bill was $54.20 before tax and tip. What a great place. I will take Connie here for our Anniversary in 2 months! Better than any restaurant in the area!! Here is a link to their Top Notch Website with great Pictures:  The below pictures I took a few months back.

Carlos Brazilian International CuisineRoanoke VA – 5 Stars PLUS -We visited this Restaurant for the first time on 2-18-14 and it was the best Dinner I have had in a long time. Connie had the Camarao Paulista – Shrimp with wine & garlic sauce with vegetables and a salad with Avocado dressing and hot rolls. I had the Porco Jardineiro – a pork loin with tomatoes pimentos and herbs with Black beans and fried Banana. I too had the salad with avocado dressing, the avocado dressing is amazing, I could eat a bowl of it with their hot rolls and I would be happy. The Place is very clean, the round dinning room overlooking Roanoke is beautiful, I had a Brazilian Beer Palma Louca which was one of the best Pilsner’s I have ever drank and I brew beer. The Staff is Amazing…. Being a Former Executive Chef, Restaurant Owner and a current Cooking Show Host, I can tell you if you want a beautiful great tasting plate of food, with a Staff that is impeccable in a Restaurant that is amazing, you have to go here. We will be coming back very soon. Hats off to the owners and Chef for a Superb Job… Our bill came to $56 with two beers and two soft drinks… There are more expensive entrees and we will be trying them… $$ to $$$ here is their web site:

Patron Mexican Grill, Covington VA (barely 4 Stars) – Service was great, Beer is Great, Restaurant is clean, Beautiful Buildout for a Shopping Center Parcel, Wings are excellent, but their mexican meat dishes have a strange taste to me, My pork wasnt cooked done I had to send it back and was way way too heavy on seasonings to the bitter point. Connie asked for a Burrito with no cheese sauce and they smothered the plate in it, so they brought her Taco’s Al Pastor instead, They had only been open a few months so hopefully they will step up the game in the kitchen. Update 3/2015 we saw that they have closed down,  I wonder if that the strange spice and meat taste had anything to do with it. That is a shame it looked like it had promise..
